AT THE CUTTING EDGE: Cold War Campaigning with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos 1967-1971. By Lt. Col. Sewall Menzel, US Army (Ret.). Drawing on his recollections and now declassified military records concerning the wars in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, Sewall Menzel, who served an Intelligence Officer and a Troop Commander in the 101st Airborne, the 11th Armored Cavalry, and MACV, takes the reader through five key campaigns.

During the Tet battles of 1968, then US Army Captain Menzel recounts infantry combat operations with the 101st Airborne Division. The narrataive includes a rare look a the deadly "quad-fifty" in combat.

Menzel provides a comprehensive and in-depth view of the "no-holds-barred" combat operations of the famed 11th Armored Cavalry Blackhorse Regiment in 1969-1970 along the Cambodian border and into Cambodia itself.

A primary focus of AT THE CUTTING EDGE is the interdiction campaigns along the Cambodian border of War Zone C, with excellently detailed first-person battle accounts with the 11th Cavalry near Bu Dop, Loc Ninh, An Loc, the Fishhook and in Cambodia. CIB Media president and retired U.S. Army Captain Frank R. Cambria is one of the 11th Cavalry combat leaders who receives favorable mention in this technical combat account of the war.

Menzel's several intelligence officer assignments provide the reader with an inside look at the roots of the War in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Menzel's approach gives an unvarnished critical analysis of the tactics, operations, and strategy of the war. His later assignment to the Laos Desk of the Directorate of Intelligence with MACV gives a unique insight to the decisive bloody battle for control of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. His writing style and analysis will keep the reader anxious to read the next page.
