USS PRINCETON -- the first Aircraft Carrier Princeton CV/CVL-23, and the second CV/CVA/CVS-37, later redesignated as Amphibious Helo Assault Ship LPH-5. World War II - Korea - Vietnam. --OUT OF PRINT--
This new (2003) book honors two great US Navy ships that shared the same name: USS PRINCETON. With a brief narrative and excellent action photos, follow the history of USS Princeton CV/CVL-23, an aircraft carrier was commissioned in February 1943, participated in the sea/air battles for targets in the Caroline Islands, and was sunk by Japanese dive bombers at Leyte. The second aircraft carrier named Princeton, CV/CVA/CVS-37, was commissioned in November 1945, too late for WWII but served vital roles in the Korean War, including support for the Marines at Chosin. In 1959, she was converted into an amphibious assault carrier and redesignated LPH-5. Princeton helo's supported USMC and Army troops in Vietnam search and destroy missions. This book was prepared with cooperation from the USS Princeton Reunion Group Association, and many Association members have posted mini-bio's and then-and-now photos in the book. 96 pages. Hardcover. Large 9x12 pages.
