MacArthur sent these seven divisions in an uncoordinated rush toward the Chinese border which had an army of 5,000,000 in 253 divisions at its command. MacArthur did this in the face of explicit Chinese warnings (and orders not to approach its Manchurian border along the Yalu -- which was defended by 700,000 troops and outnumbering the U.S. forces ten-to-one.
