Smith Jr. After serving as a replacement training unit from mid-1942 to the end of 1943, the 34th Bombardment Group began preparing for overseas duty with B-24's. It moved to England in April 1944 for operations with the Eighth Air Force. May through October '44 the 34th bombed airfields in France and Germany, coastal defenses for D-Day, supported ground forces at Saint Lo 24-25 July '44, hit V-weapon sites, gun emplacements and supply lines. Converting to B-17's in Oct '44 and began bombing marshalling yards, oil centers, and factories inside Germany. 8.5" x 11" cloth volume. Illustrated.
