DESTROYER ESCORTS OF WWII. DEs built and equipped specifically to seek and to destroy enemy submarines with depth charges, torpedoes, & guns and speeds over 20 knots.
DESTROYER ESCORTS OF WORLD WAR TWO. Pictorial history.
The US Navy's need for an intermediate second line torpedo craft spurred designers into action in 1939, but it was not until 1942 that these effective ships began to arrive in the Fleet. DE's were built and equipped specifically to seek and to destroy enemy submarines with depth charges, torpedoes, and guns. They were capable of speeds in excess of 20 knots, and they had radar, EW, and acoustic sensor systems to find their prey. This book is an essential pictorial history of Destroyer Escorts. It details each DE Class, and it lists each ship belonging to each class. Ample b/w photos depict the ships, and notes point out important visual details. A 33-inch centerfold contains 9 full color plate images of DE's in various paint and equipment configurations. Navy buffs as well as modelers will want this book.
