HEY, MAC!: This Is Serious Business! A Guy Could Get Killed! -- A Combat Infantryman's Story, by William F. McMurdie
William McMurdie was a student at Pasadena Junior College when he receive his induction notice into the U.S. Army in 1943. He chronicled the next 3 years with many letters and post cards; and these, along with a great memory, have produced this excellent biography of a young soldier in World War II. Basic training was at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, followed by assignment to the Army's unsuccessful ASTP (Army Specialized Training Program) at the University of Arkansas. When ASTP folded, he was assigned to the 99th Infantry Division at Camp Maxey, Texas. The 99th Infantry Division brought him to Europe in time for action in the Battle of the Bulge, the advance to the Rhine, Remagen Bridge, and more. This book is not just a good reminiscence. It is also a searing tale of death and violence. Once you begin to read it, you won't want to put it down. 203 pages, many personal photos.
