Click to EnlargeSTRIKE AND HOLD: A Memoir of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division in World War II. The gripping combat memoir of a platoon leader and company commander who served in the legendary 504th PIR, 82d Airborne Division, during many of WWII's pivotal battles including North Africa, Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, Waal River crossing (Market Garden), Battle of the Bulge, Siefried and into Germany. ORIGINAL HARDCOVER EDITIONS.

This fast-moving memoir of T. Moffatt Burriss shows his extraordinary role as a platoon leader and company commander with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Europe and North Africa during World War II. He saw a great deal of combat on Sicily, at Salerno, on Anzio Beach, in Holland during Operation Market Garden, and during the drive into Germany. This book portrays World War II as seen vividly through the eyes of the young American citizen-soldier.

Author T. Moffatt Burriss' account of the dramatic Nijmegen River crossing in Holland, in which he played a key role, differs substantially from that of Cornelius Ryan, who described it in A Bridge Too Far: Burriss believes the British command was responsible for a defeat that might easily have been a great victory.

Burriss and his paratroopers liberated the Wobbelin concentration camp, and he personally convinced a German general to surrender an entire corps, and he was one of the first American soldiers to enter Berlin. 256 pages, Photographs, Maps, Index.
