THE 359th FIGHTER GROUP. Summary: The 359th Fighter Group was based in England as part of the 8th Air Force. It flew both P-47 and P-51 aircraft. This history was first published after WWII. The 359th Fighter Group flew P-47s to April 1944, and then converted to P-51s. Escorted bombers into France, Germany and Poland, dive-bombed and strafed bridges, locomotives and rail lines.
