SEIZURE OF TINIAN - The official campaign history by the Historical Division, U.S. Marine Corps. Tinian was of great importance because the island held three airfields and was ideal to launch B-29 bombers against Japan itself.
THE SEIZURE OF TINIAN. This is probably the most accurately detailed book ever written about how the Marine Corps planned and executed the 8-day battle for the Island of Tinian in the Northern Marianas. Tinian was of great importance to the USA because the island held three good airfields and was ideal to launch B-29 bombers against Japan itself. Each phase of the battle is discussed and shown graphically with photos, maps, and sketches. The maps include daily progress lines. For the reader who wants to know just what happened on Tinian, this is a superb book.
