ARNHEM: The Battle Remembered. By Robert Jackson. Covers air and ground operations in meticulous detail. Written with the cooperation of General Sir John Hackett, commander 4th Parachute Brigade at Arnhem. Three allied airborne divisions--two American, one British, totaling 30,000 men--landed at Eindhoven, Nijmegen, and Arnhem in Holland. U.S. 101st Airborne Division, U.S. 82nd Airborne Division, and the British 1st Airborne Division. The British Airborne Forces jumped into Holland to seize and hold the bridgehead at Arnhem, which they did for nine days against vastly superior German forces.
This books covers all aspects of that massive operation, which was code-named "Market Garden." The British Airborne Forces were sent to Holland to seize and hold the bridgehead at Arnhem, which they did against vastly superior German forces. The mission only failed because the follow-up help that had been promised never materialized and instead of holding the bridgehead for 2 days they held it for 9 days.
