Click to EnlargeWar in Korea 1950-1953. A Pictorial History by D.M. Giangreco, the Editor for the U.S. Army's "MILITARY REVIEW" Command & General Staff College). With a stunning gallery of 521 b/w photographs--many never published--plus 13 detailed maps in a large oversized format edition, this superb work covers all phases of the war from beginning to end: Army, Marine, Navy, Air Force. The carefully selected photographs are supported by captions with incredible amounts of detail. Extra large 8.5" x 11" table-top hardcover edition with 352 pages. On June 25, 1950, Communist North Korea launched a massive attack across the 38th Parallel against the Republic of Korea (ROK). Three years and over five million casualties later, on July 27, 1953, an armistice was signed ending the war within miles of where it had started. Vastly smaller in scale than World War II and pushed into the background of our nation?s consciousness by the extended trauma of Vietnam, it is only today, on the fiftieth anniversary of the war, that its history is coming to the fore. With 521 photographs in an oversized format, this is a true pictorial history of this seemingly forgotten war. For the million and a half American veterans of this short, vicious, ?police action,? War in Korea is a fitting tribute to their sacrifice. D. M. Giangreco is a historian whose other works include Roosevelt, de Gaulle and the Posts and Airbridge to Berlin. He lives near Kansas City, Missouri.
