After the end of World War 2, the 101st remained in Germany on occupation duty before being shipped home, where the division was activated and deactivated three times as a training unit, before becoming heavily involved in action in Vietnam.
The first real action the 101st saw after WWII was in July 1965 when its 1st Brigade was blooded in the Song Con Valley, Vietnam. It acted as a rapid reaction force, reinforcing American and South Vietnamese forces when necessary, becoming a expert in rapid helicopter assault.
